A 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Kermadec Islands region at 19:03:16 UTC, at a depth of 20 km (12.4 mi).  The tsunami warning issued earlier today has been cancelled.  

My Comments:  I don't know if you have noticed or not, but these major magnitude earthquakes are happening more frequently, especially in the island areas throughout the world.  If you look at the USGS lists, most of the higher magnitude earthquakes are happening at or near islands throughout the world www.earthquake.usgs.gov...
